Having been a full-time academic financial economist in a former life (still dabble, when able), I became accustomed to my annual pilgrimage to the annual American Finance Association (AFA) meeting. For the uninitiated, the AFA annual meeting is a gathering of all the major brainpower in academic finance. Getting a paper accepted into the program is a big deal for academic researchers (I’ve had the lucky privilege in the past).

One of my favorite activities each year is reviewing all the papers that were accepted for presentation at the conference. I’ll typically print the paper list out and highlight all the seminars I want to attend. Unfortunately, this year I won’t be going — too busy with the business and my 3 rugrats over the holiday season. But I still managed to peruse through the 2016 AFA program and highlight some interesting research that will likely be hitting a journal near you…
