As many of you probably already know (it seems a large portion of our audience either has a PhD or a CFA), the CFA Institute’s Annual Conference is coming to Philadelphia this year.

Please let us know if you’ll be in town and you’d like to stop by our shop and/or link up face-to-face.
There are some really cool speakers this year, many are friends and most of them have research we’ve highlighted on our blog.
Some of the speakers that should be great:

  • Jack Bogle — No need to comment here. We all know and love Mr. Bogle.
  • Tina Williams — Tina has a great story and is incredible savvy when it comes to investing.
  • Blair duQuesnay/Isaac Presley — The dynamic due will be on stage together!
  • Cam Harvey — Sure to have some great insights on factors and “p-hacking”, see here for our post on his recent work
  • Dick Thaler — my old curriculum paper advisor at Chicago who is incredibly entertaining and an excellent presenter. A must attend.

And so much more…wow. You could go crazy learning stuff at this conference!
Here is the pitch on the event with details and links. Again, let us know if you are in the area.

Highlights from last year’s conference
At the 69th CFA Institute Annual Conference, Martin S. Fridson, CFA, shared his method for predicting high-yield bond default rates, Rupal Bhansali discussed the 7 warning signs that she avoids as a value investor, Jeremy Hunter explained how small steps over time produce large effects that result in better decisions, and Ashby Monk explained the evolution of fintech and the ways that invest-tech will change the financial industry.
Past conference speakers
The CFA Institute Annual Conference has always been an opportunity to hear from established luminaries with long and distinguished careers, like Nobel Prize winner Daniel Kahneman and pension authority Keith P. Ambachtsheer. However, it also offers a chance to hear from influential thinkers before they assume leadership roles in the global economy, becoming powerful financial decision-makers who shape the investment world. Previous conferences offered opportunities to hear from Janet Yellen before she became chair of the US Federal Reserve Board and learn from Raghuram Rajan before he became governor of the Reserve Bank of India.
